Harold Schoenhaus, DPM is a board certified foot, rearfoot, and reconstructive ankle surgeon by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a past president and current fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He holds staff appointments and operating privileges at the University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Hospital and Chestnut Hill hospital. Dr Schoenhaus' research and clinical interests are in the area of biomechanics, pathomechanics and reconstructive surgery, including joint replacement surgery and pediatric podiatric surgery. Moreover, Dr Schoenhaus is the surgical editor for PRESENT e-Learning Systems, an online medical education and networking resource dedicated to improving the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals throughout the world. He is a nationally recognized lecturer and pioneer in the field of lower extremity pathomechanics and reconstructive surgery. Dr Schoenhaus has authored several landmark articles in peer-reviewed journals and books. In 2015 Dr Schoenhaus was the recipient of the Gallery of Success Award from the Temple University.
Robert Frykberg, DPM, MPHPRESENT Editor - Diabetic Limb Salvage
Robert G Frykberg, DPM, MPH is a graduate of the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1976. Dr Frykberg went on to complete his residency training at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He served as the President of the Massachusetts Podiatric Medical Society and a Member of the Board of Registration in Podiatry. From 1992 to 1994, he attended the Harvard School of Public Health and graduated with a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in quantitative methods. After 21 years of private practice, Dr Frykberg accepted the position as Clinical Dean of the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery prior to moving to Phoenix. After 15 years of dedicated service to our Veterans, Dr Frykberg has decided to retire from his role as Chief of Podiatry at the Phoenix VA Medical Center and as Director of the Phoenix VA Medical Center Podiatric Residency Program. He continues to hold the academic rank of Professor, University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and Adjunct Professor, Midwestern University Program in Podiatric Medicine. His research and writing interests have included all facets of lower extremity disorders, but are specifically focused on diabetic foot ulcers, infections, Charcot foot, and wound care. The author of nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications, he has also been the Editor of two textbooks: The High Risk Foot in Diabetes Mellitus (1991) and the Diabetic Charcot Foot (2010). His expertise in the Diabetic Foot translated into hundreds of speaking invitations nationally and internationally with numerous lecture engagements in China, India, Russia, South America, the UK, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Italy, and all across Europe.

Matthew G Garoufalis, DPM, CWS graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio with degrees in Biology and Economics and went on to graduate from the Dr Wm M Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr Garoufalis is a past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, a Past President of the American Podiatric Medical Association, and is the Immediate Past President of the International Federation of Podiatrists. Dr Garoufalis is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and American Board of Podiatric Medicine with Added Qualification in Wound Care and Limb Preservation. He is a Founding Fellow of American Society of Podiatric Surgeons and a Fellow of American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. He is also a Certified Wound Specialist by the American Board of Wound Management. Dr Garoufalis is a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is a noted authored of many articles and, as an invited speaker, has accepted speaking engagements for educational lectures, seminars, and workshops, both nationally and internationally, on a variety of topics pertinent to wound care, podiatric medicine and surgery, and practice management. He is considered a Key Opinion Leader in many areas.

Marc Benard, DPM is the Assistant Director of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is formerly the organization’s Executive Director and Examination Chair. Dr Benard is also Co-Director and President of the Baja Project for Crippled Children/Operation Footprint, an organization which, over the past 40 years, has had over 30,000 patient visits and performed over 3,000 foot and ankle surgeries on children with congenital and acquired neuromuscular conditions. The “project” has trained several hundred residents in the process. Dr. Benard is the former Chair for the Committee on Disaster Relief of Rotary International District 5280. He is certified with both the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and lectures nationally in the areas of pediatric and adult biomechanics and surgery.

Steven A Bernstein, DPM graduated from PCPM Temple Podiatry School in 1989. He went on to do his residency at Golden Glades Regional Medical Center in Miami, Florida. In 1991, Dr Bernstein joined an orthopedic group in Aventura, Florida specializing in trauma and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. Currently, Dr Bernstein is in a solo practice located in Fort Lee, New Jersey which specializes in foot and ankle trauma and revisional surgery. Dr Bernstein is Chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery and heads up the podiatric surgery department at Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus, New Jersey. Dr Bernstein has a special interest through the years in how bones heal and looking for ways to increase and improve bone healing, particularly with biologics and hardware.

Leah is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) and the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN). Speaking engagements include delivery of educational and nursing continuing education courses (CE and non-CE) on topics of wound, skin care, and compression therapy.

Windy Cole, DPM is an Adjunct Professor and Director of Wound Care Research at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Dr Cole completed her undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Cincinnati, and her podiatry degree with honors from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. She then completed her surgical residency training at University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr Cole is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. She is an active member of the APMA, OPMA, and AAWC. Dr Cole has been in practice in Northeastern Ohio for 17 years. Her interest is in limb salvage and wound care, and she currently serves as Director of Wound Care Services for Cleveland Regency Hospitals and is the Medical Director at University Hospitals Ahuja Wound Care Center. Dr Cole has published on wound care modalities, and speaks nationally and internationally on limb preservation and wound care.

Suhad Hadi, DPM received her doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. She continued her post-doctorate training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1997-2000. Upon completion of her residency training, she remained at the University of Texas Health Science Center for three years as Clinical Faculty and served as the Director of Resident Education. Dr Had furthered her career by joining Mercy Medical Group in Sacramento, CA from 2003-2008. While there she served as the Chief of Podiatry at the Medical Center and at Mercy San Juan Medical Center. She was also appointed Clinical Director of their Elk Grove multi-specialty clinic. In an effort to return to academic medicine and work again with resident training, she joined the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital as full-time staff in 2009. Dr Hadi has transferred with the VA twice since that time, to Puget Sound Veterans Hospital and served as Director of PAVE, and finally transferred to Cleveland Veterans Hospital to their Akron facility. She remains actively involved in clinical practice and resident education.

Anthony R Iorio, DPM, MPH, C Ped graduated from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) in 1981, completed his residencies at two VA hospitals in 1983, and went into private practice in Connecticut, becoming a partner in 1985. He earned his MPH degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York in 2003. Dr Iorio joined the faculty of NYCPM in July of 2004. At the College, Dr Iorio became Chair of the Department of Medical Sciences in 2004 and remained chair until 2007, when he was named Assistant Dean for Continuing Education and was named Chair of the Department of Community Health and Medicine in 2009, the same year he became Chief of Lincoln Medical Center's Department of Podiatry.

Certified by the American Board of Radiology in 2001, Marlena Jbara, MD has served as a member of the Bone and Joint division of Radiology at Staten Island University Hospital since joining the team in 2008. In addition to her expertise in generalized orthopaedic radiology, Dr Jbara has been an innovator in designing and implementing continuing medical education programs dedicated to podiatrists, foot and ankle surgeons and residents in radiology, podiatry, orthopedics and emergency medicine. Dr Jbara, a summa cum laude graduate of the BA-MD Program at the State University of New York, is a leader in Podiatric Radiology, developing curricula for Podiatric Radiology academic programs and delivering Grand rounds and New York Roentgen Society lectures on Osteomyelitis in the Diabetic Foot. Currently she holds a CME-accredited program monthly in Podiatric Radiology that serves the Northwell Health System. She has published articles and book chapters on the shoulder, knee and ankle, performs reviews for Diabetic Foot & Ankle and remains active in clinical medical research. Alton R. Johnson Jr, DPM is a current ACFAS clinical research fellow at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2011, Dr Johnson received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Barry University. In 2012, he attended the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. While at KSUCPM, he was a recipient of the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, KSUCPM MINT Scholarship, APMA National Scholarship, and North Central Academy of Podiatric Medicine Scholarship. Dr Johnson also served as the face of KSUCPM serving as a Student Ambassador, Academic Council Student Representative and serving as the White Coat Ceremony's Gonfalon Carrier. In addition, as a podiatric medical student, Dr Johnson published several research posters focused on geriatric fall secondary to foot deformities. After graduating from podiatric medical school in 2016, Dr Johnson went on to complete a three-year Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Residency (PMSR+RRA) at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center in Aventura, FL. While at AHMC, Dr Johnson served as chief resident in his third year. Dr Johnson was part of AHMCs back to back to back ResEdSummit Midwest Residency Rumble 1st Place championship teams (2016, 2017, 2018). Dr Johnson has also managed to present multiple research projects at The Future of Regenerative Medicine Congress, ResEd Summit Midwest Conferences, and Symposium of Advanced Wound Care. During his third year of residency, Dr Johnson was able to publish a peer-reviewed journal article on regenerative medicine. His research emphasis has been focused on regenerative medicine, diabetic limb salvage techniques, and rare dermatological and bone pathologies.

Warren S Joseph, DPM is a podiatric and infectious disease attending at Roxborough Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He is a specialist in the treatment of lower extremity infectious diseases. Javier La Fontaine, DPM, MS, is a Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in podiatric medicine, particularly the evaluation and care of foot and ankle wounds, with special expertise in evaluating and managing diabetic foot disease. He serves as Co-Director of the Diabetic Limb Salvage Service. Dr La Fontaine holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from Xavier University and a Master of Science in clinical investigation (biomedical sciences) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He earned his doctoral degree in podiatric medicine at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and completed residencies in both podiatric medicine and podiatric surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is board certified by both the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and has subspecialty certification in foot and rearfoot/ankle surgery. Dr La Fontaine's research focuses largely on diabetic foot disease and related complications. He has published more than 40 academic articles and delivered scores of invited lectures regionally, nationally, and abroad. Among his many professional activities, Dr La Fontaine serves as President of the Dallas County Podiatric Medical Association, Vice President of the Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation, and longtime Chair of the Bandera Podiatric Residency Conference. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Diabetes and Endocrinology and is both the diabetes section editor and a reviewer for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is also a reviewer for the Journal of Diabetes Research, International Wound Journal, and Journal American Podiatric Medical Association. Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Dr La Fontaine has taken part in the Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation's annual San Miguel mission trip every year since 2004.

Andrew B Peacock, DPM, FACFAS is board certified in foot, rearfoot, and reconstructive ankle surgeon by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a current associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He specializes in all aspects of foot in ankle surgery including complex foot and ankle reconstruction including arthroscopy. His accolades involve complex deformities and trauma to the foot and ankle in both pediatrics and adults. He completed his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr Peacock then went on to complete a four-year reconstructive foot and ankle surgical residency at The University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed his fellowship with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons in Trauma, arthroscopy, rearfoot and ankle reconstruction including total ankle replacement at the Pennsylvania Intensive Lower Extremity Fellowship. Dr Peacock, DPM has a special interest in academic medicine and surgery. He teaches at his alma mater Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and enjoys lecturing on regional, national, and international levels. He serves as a peer reviewer for The Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr Peacock holds staff privileges and operating appointments at the University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Hospital, Aria Jefferson Northeast Health System, and Tower Health System where he trains resident physicians. Additionally, he hosts an office clerkship for podiatric medical students. He enjoys giving back through mission work including extensive surgical experience with pediatrics and reconstruction in Leon, Nicaragua.

Jarrod Shapiro, DPM is a Board Certified podiatric foot and ankle physician and surgeon who has been in practice for over 10 years. He is also a fellow with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and Diplomat of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr Shapiro has worked for Western University for the past 8 years. Prior to that he was in private practice in various aspects of patient care, including multi-specialty hospital-based practice, several wound care clinics, and individual proprietor private practice. Dr Shapiro's training includes a 3-year foot and ankle residency at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan after graduating from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, CA in 2003. After completing his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, he did his 3-year postgraduate training at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan from 2003 - 2006.He is also the Editor of PRESENT's Practice Perfect.

Michael Trepal, DPM is a Professor of Surgery at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and serves as the Vice President for Academic Affairs. In addition he is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at New York Medical College and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at SUNY Downstate. Dr. Trepal serves as Residency Director for the SUNY Downstate Podiatry Residency. He has published multiple scientific articles and has contributed to many textbooks.

George Vito, DPM, MBA, MSc, EJD has been in private practice for nearly 30 years. He has extensive experience in reconstructive surgery of the foot, ankle, and leg. He graduated from the Iowa College of Podiatric Medicine in 1988 and then completed a three-year surgical residency at Emory/Northlake Regional Medical Center, in Tucker, Georgia under the guidance of Dr E Dalton McGlamry. He has lectured and published numerous articles within the United States and abroad. He has had extensive training in the use of external frames and has been awarded an Honorary Professorship of Orthopedics from the Ilizarov Institute in Kurgan, Siberia, which is the largest orthopedic hospital in the world. He currently practices in LeRoy, New York with a specialization of foot and ankle reconstructions, which include Charcot reconstruction of the diabetic foot and ankle using the Circular Ring Fixation Methodology. Dr. Vito has ancillary offices in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Batavia, and Rochester, New York with multiple referring physicians in the area that help recognize and support the post-operative management once a patient has the procedure performed. Dr Vito has pioneered Charcot reconstruction with ring fixation and has been performing these types of procedures since 1994. With well over 2,000 Charcot foot reconstructions performed since 1994, he is recognized as one of the top authorities in the treatment of the diabetic foot and ankle as well as general reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. In addition to his podiatric medical degree, he has obtained an MBA, a second masters in criminal justice, two graduate certificates, the first in White Collar Crime Investigations and the second in Negotiation and Conflict resolution. He has also obtained his law degree from Purdue University.

Marie Williams, DPM, DHL is board certified in foot and ankle surgery and a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr Williams was the first clinical dean at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and is currently an Adjunct Professor for the school. Dr Williams has been in private practice since 1984. She is currently the Chairman of the Department of Podiatry at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. She has been involved in residency training since 1986 and a Program Director in Podiatric Surgery and Medicine since 1988. Dr Williams is a speaker in the field of foot and ankle surgery as well as limb salvage. She has published several articles on the healing of complex wounds and limb salvage, while also authoring a chapter: Bone Infections in "Foot and Ankle Radiology". In August 2014, Dr Williams was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts along with her teammates from Immaculata College. Their team, the Mighty Macs, captured three consecutive Championships. They were considered trailblazers for women sports, and in the 70s they help bring about Title 9 and equality for women in sports. In June 2015 they received the trailblazer award in the women’s basketball hall of fame. Dr Williams was recently requested to be a Keynote Speaker for Immaculata University and received the Doctor of Humane Letters for her humanitarian efforts in May 2018.
